Introduction paragraph notes:
Literal and metaphorical pilgrimage can be found in so many different works of literature. One can not only apply their findings to the significance of that specific piece of literature but they can also so the similarities of how authors write with that technique to connect their writings with most modern-day happenings.
What context/background information does your reader need to know before you get to the analysis?
Basically, insert a sentence or two of general information from both poems 1 and 2 so that the reader can understand the gist of what I am talking about.
Thesis statement:
Throughout Thomas’s and Juan’s literality works one can see the differences and similarities through their literal pilgrimages, as well as connecting them to modern-day happenings in the real world.
The main idea of body section #1: Literal/ metaphorical pilgrimage of poem 1(“Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” by Dylan Thomas)
Supporting example: Literal pilgrimage
1. People knowing death is coming
2. People realize death coming is not a bad thing
lines 13-15 “Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, do not go gentle into that good night.”
Supporting example: Connect these emotions and evidence to modern-day happenings.
The main idea of body section #2: Literal/metaphorical pilgrimage of poem 2 (“Boarderbus” by Juan Felipe Herrera)
Supporting example: Literal pilgrimage
1. People being detained
2. People being scared during a journey
lines 12-14 “I know where we’re going where we always go to some detention center to some fingerprinting hall or cube.”
Supporting example: Touch base on where we see this happen in real life and not only in fictional writing.
The main idea of body section #3: The different poetic styles used in Poem 1 and Poem 2 and how they add to the literal or metaphorical pilgrimage in the poem.
Supporting example: Different styles
1. “Borderbus” is written in more than one language, is more essay styled, and tells more of a realistic story.
2. “DNGGITGN” is written in a very poem style, must truly dissect the poem to get the true meaning, and tells a story with more of a fictional viewpoint.
Supporting example: How literal pilgrimage is used similarly throughout each different written work.
