Topic Choice #1: CBT and Problem Behaviors
Our first discussion for Module Two will focus on the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy in treating compulsive behavior disorders. As mentioned in the reading and module notes, this is a very popular form of therapy that is applied in a variety of contexts. One of the major strong points of CBT is that it emphasizes that an individual client needs to learn to become aware of his or her own thinking patterns. Please be sure to have the appropriate reading and video content about this approach completed before beginning the activity.

Citing our reading material and the above three videos, explain the major differences between a psychodynamic approach to therapy and a cognitive-behavioral approach.
After engaging in your own independent research and directly referencing the video about smoking behavior, make an argument for why another type of compulsive behavior (your choice here) might best be treated through a cognitive-behavioral approach.
As our reading clearly points out, many practitioners argue that a CBT approach is more effective than Freudian or Jungian forms of therapy. Why is this the case, especially with regard to smoking, drinking, and other addiction-based behaviors?
